Winter is here. Well it just arrived yesterday with 6 inches of snow, the most we have seen this season. Work on the new cabin has been feverish, and we were just putting in the last windows as the snow was coming down. The cabin is coming through on schedule and will be ready for the spring of 2016! With that being said, deposits for 2016 can be sent in to hold you spot. Checks are preferred, but feel free to use the online credit card deposit page as well. If you plan to drop your deposit off at the All Canada show in Chicago in January, just send us an email and let us know. Thanks Rob.

It is with heavy hearts that we let our friends and guests know about the passing of my oldest brother Jim. Many of our longtime guests may remember Jimmy being at the resort from 70's all the way to the early 2000's. He was an avid fisherman and was a longtime muskie hunter. Jim's fingerprints are all over Stanley's, as many of the cabins here were designed and built with Jim's handiwork. Always the out going guide, Jim was one of those guys that you heard coming before you saw him. Our entire family has been taken back by Jim leaving us at only the age of 50, but we are comforted by the outpouring of friends and family wishing us the best, and praying that Jim has finally found peace from difficult times he faced in the past years. There are no funeral arragements at the current time, but a memorial service is going to planed in the future to celebrate Jim's life and great contributions that he made. ......I can just imagine Jim and Jesus out fishing right now, and Jim yelling from the back of the boat.."set the hook!!! set the hook!!"....

June update. Well the water had come up a bit, so getting into Violet is possible, but you have to be careful going through the second rapids. Most people have been backing through with the motor tilted up. Fishing has been good with the walleyes still in relatively shallow water, 10-15 ft. The smallmouth are on their beds and have been active, and the portage lakes have had some nice trout action. It has been a great year for big fish from the portage lakes. We must have released close to 20 walleyes in the 30+ inch range, and another 20 in the 27-29 inch range. Beautiful healthy fish. The large walleye in this post was a nice 29 incher caught in Trout lake.

Well the good news is that the first Rapids is pretty easy to make it through. The bad news is that the 2 me Rapids is almost impassible right now due to the low water. We are not sure if we will move the walleye lake boats to portage across from camp, or put some shuttle boats at top of 2nd Rapids. I'll figure that out in next couple of days. Anyways, all the portage lakes are ready to go. Here is a shot of Trout Lake that I set up today. Just to remind us that we are in the north, they are calling for a couple of inches of snow for Monday. Well at least the ice is all gone off the lake. Went out on April 30th this year which is just about normal. We have been dry this spring, and there have been several forest fires in the area already. We'll back to work, opening day is this Saturday.
